Meeting Point: Zócalo – Historic Center
We begin in the heart of Mexico City, at the iconic Zócalo, one of the largest public squares in the world. Surrounded by the Metropolitan Cathedral, the National Palace, and the remains of the ancient Aztec capital Tenochtitlán, this is where past and present meet.
Before tasting, we’ll take a short walk through the Historic Center, exploring colonial streets, hidden courtyards, and lively plazas — setting the cultural stage for the flavors to come.
First Stop: Tamal & Atole
Start your morning like a true local.
Enjoy a freshly steamed tamal, wrapped in corn husk or banana leaf, paired with a warm cup of atole, a comforting masa-based drink with deep Mesoamerican roots.
This simple yet symbolic breakfast connects us to pre-Hispanic traditions that are still alive today.
Second Stop: Mexican Gastronomy Museum
Dive deeper into the rich history and evolution of Mexican cuisine, tracing its journey through different historical stages—from pre-Hispanic traditions and colonial influences to modern interpretations. Discover the essential ingredients that define its identity, from native staples like maize, chili, and cacao to the fusion of flavors that emerged over centuries, and taste a typical soup and refreshing drink.
Thrid stop: Tlayuda or Tacos de Canasta
Time for bold flavors.
Try a crunchy Oaxacan-style tlayuda — often called a Mexican pizza — layered with beans, cheese, salsa, and meat. Or taste tacos de canasta, Mexico’s beloved “basket tacos,” gently steamed and perfect for eating on the go — just like office workers and locals do every day.
We’ll continue strolling through traditional markets and hidden food stands known only to locals.
Fourth Stop: Local Market
Our next stop is a local market, a vibrant local market known not only for its everyday flavors but also for its stunning murals that reflect Mexico’s artistic and cultural identity. As we explore its lively corridors, we’ll pause to taste one of the most traditional Mexican antojitos—either a handmade tlacoyo or a freshly prepared quesadilla filled with traditional ingredients like huitlacoche or squash blossoms.
As we walk, we’ll pass historic buildings, old churches, and bustling street life that make this area so vibrant.
Final Stop: Pulquería
Our final stop takes us into the heart of one of Mexico’s oldest traditions: a pulquería. Pulque is a pre-Hispanic fermented drink made from the sap of the agave plant, known for its slightly thick texture and unique, tangy flavor. To close the experience, we’ll visit the oldest pulquería in the city, a traditional bar where this ancestral beverage is enjoyed in a local atmosphere.
